Welcome to Dead Broke Colt Company!
Hey! Welcome to Dead Broke Colt Co.! I’m Naya and I’m thrilled to share my journey and passion for horses, training, and the western lifestyle with you! Whether you’re here to learn about horse training, find out more about our services, or simply enjoy stories from the ranch, WELCOME!!!
My love for horses started when I was just seven years old. My Sunday school teacher threw an end of the year party at her ranch and I got to ride Darrel… A big ol chocolate brown gelding that I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with! I then went on to take lessons from that Sunday school teacher for about seven years. I got the opportunity to show some of her horses and gain a glimpse into the competitive horse world through that experience. She’s been huge role model for me, in both horsemanship as well as how to walk confidently with the Lord.
When I got to the unavoidable age where I needed to get a job, I went looking and found the perfect one! I became a trail guide at a local horse ranch where I spent seven wonderful years learning more of the working ranch and the management side of the equine industry. I also got the opportunity to get on horses that weren’t as broke as the ones I got to learn on… Some bucked me, some kicked me, some bit me, and I was hooked! There’s just something about getting to turn an animal from a green, unseasoned creature into a trusted partner and friend.
This early experience laid the foundation for my skills and deepened my connection with these magnificent animals. Later, I worked for two years under a professional in the equine industry, further honing my techniques and understanding of horse behavior. Today, I’m proud to offer horseback riding lessons, colt starting, and general training services to help others experience the joy and fulfillment that horses bring.
My faith in God has been a guiding force throughout my journey, providing strength and direction in all my endeavors. I am forever in awe of our creator, who instillled the instincts and capacity to love and learn into 1,000 pound majestic beasts. Of all his creation, our Savior will return to earth riding on a white horse! It’s this faith that inspires me to share my knowledge and passion through teaching and to ensure every horse in my care is treated with the utmost respect and compassion.
In addition to training, I own Mud Creek Mercantile with my mom. Mud Creek is a western/boho/Christain/little-bit-of-everything boutique where I craft custom cowboy hats to go with all the DARLING clothes we have! I also run another side business creating custom leather pieces, which I get to showcase in Mud Creek. These ventures allow me to express my creativity and love for western fashion; producing unique, high-quality items that reflect the spirit of the West and the spirit of Christ.
At our ranch, you'll meet some special members of our team, including Trout, my loyal and energetic ranch dog, and two exceptional horses, Wick and Jack. Wick, my first horse, is my tried-and-true companion. He’s been there, seen that, done that…. Which makes him my go-to beginner lesson horse! Jack, a tall and handsome ex-racehorse, has found his home here as well and loves nothing more than finding an open strip of grass to race his friends on during trail rides!
Currently, I don’t have any horses for sale, but keep checking back as I frequently update my listings. I’m committed to matching high-quality horses with their perfect owners, ensuring a bond that brings joy and success to both.
